Tyler Perry on New House of Payne

Here is the newest e-newsletter from the Tyler Perry “fan club”, for lack of a better term:

    Hi Everybody!

Okay, it’s getting close to that time.  On Wednesday–this Wednesday,June 6th, HOUSE OF PAYNE airs nationwide on TBS. This is a dream come true for me.  I tell you.

Many of you know this story, but for those of you who don’t, I want to share it with you.  About three years ago I had a deal with a major studio to do a sitcom. They wanted the show and offered me a lot of money to do it.  They said they loved the idea but, as they often do, they wanted me to change everything about it.  They didn’t want me to use the people that I had chosen and they didn’t want me to have any characters make references to faith or Jesus. Well, you know that ain’t me.

So I walked away.  Now here’s where all of you came in.  I went to Atlanta and put up the money to do the show myself. The only reason I was able to do this is because you all have invested in me over the years.

We tested the show in ten markets and you all watched sending the ratings through the roof!  So much so that TBS came along and offered a 100-episode deal. This has never been done before.

I said all of that to say this–When you know something goes against what you feel; when your spirit is churning and restless; don’t be afraid to walk away, no matter how much is at stake.  God will give the increase. And He did.

If you saw the first ten test episodes last year, then forget everything that you saw. The show is all new! New set, new stories, a few new characters and a lot of drama mixed in. This is nothing like any sitcom that you have seen in recent years.  I thought, “If real people go through real things, then why can’t we do it on this show?” So just know that there is also a lot of drama mixed up in this comedy, along with a lot of life lessons.

It’s such a great show, with a cast full of underdogs that have been trying to get their break for years.  So just know that you have the power to help all of them to realize a dream.

So please watch it, if you will. Two shows will air every Wednesday night, but this Wednesday night Madea is on the first show and Brown is on the second.

God bless you and thank you for helping me to help these very talented and deserving people get their big break.

Please let me know that you plan on watching this Wednesday by leaving me a quick message on the message board.

    Be Blessed,

    TYLER

    Remember the following:

    House of Payne
    Wednesday, June 6

It is all you need to know to support Tyler Perry!!!

“i cried” post making the rounds on Myspace

I was checking up on my daughter’s MySpace area (must make sure that not only obvious things are not happening, but make sure she is behaving also).

    I saw this:

When you were 8 years old, your mom handed you an ice cream. You thanked her by dripping it all over your lap.

When you were 9 years old, she paid for piano lessons. You thanked her by never even bothering to practice.

When you were 10 years old she drove you all day, from soccer to football to one birthday party after another. You thanked her by jumping out of the car and never looking back.

When you were 11 years old, she took you and your friends to the movies. You thanked her by asking to sit in a different row.

When you were 12 years old, she warned you not to watch certain TV shows. You thanked her by waiting until she left the house.

When you were 13, she suggested a haircut that was becoming. You thanked her by telling her she had no taste.

When you were 14, she paid for a month away at summer camp. You thanked her by forgetting to write a single letter.

When you were 15, she came home from work, looking for a hug. You thanked her by having your bedroom door locked.

When you were 16, she taught you how to drive her car. You thanked her by taking it every chance you could.

When you were 17, she was expecting an important call. You thanked her by being on the phone all night.

When you were 18, she cried at your high school graduation. You thanked her by staying out partying until dawn.

When you were 19, she paid for your college tuition, drove you to campus carried your bags. You thanked her by saying good-bye outside the dorm so you wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of your friends.

When you were 25, she helped to pay for your wedding, and she cried and told you how deeply she loved you. You thanked her by moving halfway across the country.

When you were 50, she fell ill and needed you to take care of her. You thanked her by reading about the burden parents become to their children.

And then, one day, she quietly died. And everything you never did came crashing down like thunder on YOUR HEART.

If you love your MOM, repost this bulletin saying “i cried”

if you don’t… then u obviously don’t care if your mom dies

I found a lot of truth in that “poem” or whatever it is… Much like the Mark Twain adage that:

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.

I think the last line is a little harsh, but other than that, I think it is a great little head check…

House of Payne starting this week

The newly retooled House of Payne will start this coming Wednesday, June 6. The best part is it will be on TBS.

I’m really glad it is essentially, on a national network. (I will take a stab here and say that TBS is on every cable provider in the country, without paying extra.) This keeps fans from trying to figure out which network, time and if it is being shown by a station they can pick up.

I am also glad that House of Payne had a short run, giving Tyler Perry a chance to change it up and re-tool, I’m sure for the better.

Tyler’s material usually starts off somewhat rocky. This gave him the start, now he can just go…

It should be great! I have very high expectations!!!

By the way, I got a lovely comment from TBS. It points out a few clips that are out. Go by and watch. They are great!!!

    RightMom,

Thanks for blogging about Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

Check out the newest sneak peek of the show on TBS.com.

If you need anything else or have any questions of concerns, let me know.

I’ll have more to say later.

Right now, I’m getting my kids ready to go visit my parents… must not be late for Sunday lunch (even when Mom & Dad are an hour away)!!

Do I have it in me?

I’ve been trying to write on a couple of book ideas, especially since my life has been changing.

    I haven’t gotten very far…

Then I read this entry by one of my very favorite writers, Jonah Goldberg:

So now that the book is really and for true out of my hands — at least until proofs or galleys come back — I’m actually able to devote some time and energy to other things. I was working on that book — or not working on it, but having it weigh on me — for roughly four years. Even when I felt fine about where I was — which wasn’t often — it still haunted me. I’m having a hard time adjusting. But it’s a good problem to have. One of the things I’ve been trying to do is catch up on things I wanted to read or see but just couldn’t get around to because of book or baby.

He then starts to enumerate the things he started catching up on, a lot of which I have already watched/read/thinking about.

Then it occurred to me: this was the amount of sacrifice required to write a tome.

    WOW!

Do I have it in me??

    I don’t know; I hope I do, but I don’t know…

    Hog Hunting in South Louisiana

My dad sent me this email with the attached picture:

    Alligator Hog Hunting

It had this simple caption attached: Hog Hunting in South Louisiana.

    There were no other details…

I wouldn’t get in the way of this alligator crossing the road with his meal, that’s for sure!

Singing Contest Announced By Tyler Perry

I just received this email from the Tyler Perry fan club:

    Hey everybody,

BIG ANNOUNCMENT…. Okay, so everywhere I go people are always asking me, “Tyler, how can I get in one of your plays, your movies or even on House of Payne?”

So here’s what I’ve decided to do. You know that I love great singers and most of the people that I work with are singers. If you are a SINGER (SINGERS ONLY–no poetry, no rap–SINGERS ONLY) and you think that you have what it takes to be in one of my shows here is what you need to do.

Please follow these instructions very carefully because we have set a system in place. So you have to follow them to the letter.

    1. Send a video of you singing one song.
    2. The song must be sung a cappella–no music, no tracks, no band–just your voice.
    3. Before you start to sing the song you must say your full name, phone number and age.
    4. You must be 18 years or older by May 18, 2007.
    5. The song that you sing has to be either from one of my plays or one of my movies (no exceptions).
    6. You are the only one that can be on the video.
    7. The video must be in either VHS tape format or DVD
    8. Mail the video via regular US Mail. No Fedex, No UPS, No registered mail.

The mailing address to send the mail to is:

    TYLER PERRY STUDIOS
    541 10th St. PMB 122
    ATLANTA GA 30318

Sorry your videos WILL NOT BE RETURNED TO YOU.

NO FEDEX OR REGISTERED MAIL ONLY REGULAR MAIL

Also your image and video may be used on a live taping of one of my shows. The contest deadline is May 18, 2007 and we must have all videos in by then and they will not be accepted after that date. All of the best videos will be reviewed by me personally. The top ten will be invited to Atlanta for the final competition where all ten contestants will get a chance to compete. Everyone will also get a chance to vote online at TylerPerry.com in the upcoming weeks.

This is going to be FUN!!! Okay, let me hear from you.

By the way I DO NOT HAVE A MYSPACE PAGE. The only way to get to me is on my message board at http://TylerPerry.com/messageboard

    Tyler

I’ve read many comments around here from posters talking about how they can sing and they just need a chance to show Tyler how good they are. Well, here is your chance to show him…

    Good Luck!!

    To Be 6 Again!

    To Be 6 Again…

A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, observing his wife, looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she’d like to have for her Birthday.

“I’d like to be six again”, she replied, still looking in the mirror.

On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day!  He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, everything there was.

Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down.

He then took her to a McDonald’s where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake.

Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M’s. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, “Well Dear, what was it like being six again?”

Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. “I meant my dress size, you dumb ass!”

The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong.

I think the husband was a gem!!

My birthday is soon; I just wish my husband could take me to Six Flags! We saw the empty lot the other day by the Astrodome and just about wept. It looked so lonely there…

As for being a size 6… I’ve given up on that! In order to achieve that I would have to have some serious surgery that I don’t think has been invented yet (like shaving down my hip bones).

    I’ll take a size 10!…

    When Trademarks Overcome History

You can’t help but see one of those amazing commercials for 300. It is a movie based on a graphic novel (a/k/a comic book) which loosely depicts the Battle of Thermopylae.

This battle took place between the Spartans (a city state of Ancient Greece) and the Persians around 480 BC.

The Battle of Themopylae is an important battle historically in that so few (300) warded off so many. War historians study this battle because of the tactics utilized.

I used the commercial to go into the subject matter of Ancient Greece on how they had such an effect on our history and form of government. I started to talk about the different city-states and discuss how each one was different. I then mentioned The Trojans…

My daughter looked at me and said, “I thought that was a condom”…

I explained to her that the Greek Trojans came first; by several thousand years.

    What else can you say?

If anyone ever questions the importance of Trademarks, just remember this: because of marketing Trojans are no longer historical figures…

    That is amazing.

Take the Pledge to support the Surge: So Who’s your Daddy?

Less than 24 hours after President Bush addressed the Nation and requested bi-partisan support for his Iraq troop surge plan, a Senate panel rejected the plan.

On a bipartisan vote of 12-9, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a resolution expressing clear disapproval of Bush’s Iraq policy, a day after he asked Congress to give it more time to work. The vote is nonbinding, but supporters hope it will convince the president to reconsider.

In his State of the Union address to a defiant Congress on Tuesday, Bush insisted it was not too late to shape the outcome in Iraq with a new strategy. “I ask you to give it a chance to work,” Bush said in the speech, the first time he faced a House of Representatives and Senate both controlled by Democrats.

As my good “southern” bred friends and family would put it, ”they didn’t even let the body get cold”…

Prior to President Bush’s State of the the Union address, that very same afternoon, General David Patraeus gave the following testimony:

General David Petraeus testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee. When asked if he could get his job done in Iraq without additional troops, he replied: “No, sir.”  When asked if a congressional resolution of disapproval of the “surge” could encourage the enemy, he said, “That’s correct, sir.”

So… what side are you on? What side are the Senators on? It looks like some Republican Senators, Warner and Hagel will vote on this “non-binding” resolution that Senator Biden was quoted as saying it was, “not an attemptot embarrass the president… It is an attempt to save the president from making a significant mistake with regard to our policy in Iraq”.

If you believe that, I guess you believe Paris Hilton is still a virgin….

My guess is that they are looking out for their political carreer as opposed to what is in the best interest of this country, i.e.: winning.

In today’s more “hip” vernacle, the question is:  Who’s your daddy?

You can let everyone know and maybe help avert disaster by taking the Pledge:

If the United States Senate passes a resolution, non-binding or otherwise, that criticizes the commitment of additional troops to Iraq that General Petraeus has asked for and that the president has pledged, and if the Senate does so after the testimony of General Petraeus on January 23 that such a resolution will be an encouragement to the enemy, I will not contribute to any Republican senator who voted for the resolution. Further, if any Republican senator who votes for such a resolution is a candidate for re-election in 2008, I will not contribute to the National Republican Senatorial Committee unless the Chairman of that Committee, Senator Ensign, commits in writing that none of the funds of the NRSC will go to support the re-election of any senator supporting the non-binding resolution

    1. Take the Pledge/sign the Petition;
    2. Contact your Senators and the Senate Republican leadership;
    3. Tell at least 3 friends about the Pledge and refer them here to sign

I prefer we, as a country, as a people, win the war in Iraq. I believe in order to do this, we need to support The Surge, General Petraeus and the troops.

If you are still unsure if the Surge is the right plan or not, take a look at where our troops stand; read this, Why Iraq Matters. It is written by an active duty officier and emailed it to Hugh Hewitt.Part I and Part II)

    24: Snapped together!!
    TV, 24

Jack Bauer’s 6th bad day has not disappointed!!

This year, my oldest daughter has started watching it with me. She is so psyched!! So, that has been a real pleasure for me.

This past week has not disappointed!

While I thought the first 4 hours were not bad, they weren’t like last year’s start. I mean, how do you compete with the assassination of a President in the first 4 minutes of a program? That is hard to beat!

But this past week’s episode was amazing!

First of all, one of my favorites, Bill Buchanan a/k/a LTC McQueen to me, is now married to the Homeland Security gal from last season, Karen Hayes… good. good, they are moving along from last season and going on with their lives.

It looks like one of the main terrorists is Dr. Bashir! I didn’t think he had it in him to be a warrior type. He used to wince when he played darts with Chief O’Brien! He made a deal to help us track down the “real” terrorist (as opposed to him). As I explained to my daughter, “he may be a terrorist, but he’s our terrorist!”

Anyway, the best part of this week was the conjunction of several universes: Jack’s family, the Bluetooth group and conspiracies galore…

Dr. Zefram Cochrane is Jack’s Dad? (If he is a bit evil, he may be closer to Capt. Dudley of LA Confidential.) The Bluetooth leader/pupet master of President Logan in Season 5 is Jack’s brother? I’m surprised the universe didin’t rip and fall into itself or form a wormhole right through my TV and suck me into some alternate universe!!

    -SNAP- (That was my brain.)

No wonder Jack has this deep seated sense of patriotism; he was obviously rebelling against the established Bauer family values. It explains why he can torture enemies of the state…

Speaking of which, how’s this: “Hey bro! Haven’t seen you in a while; where’s dad!!!! (while he is putting a plastic bag over your head!) This is for screwing up my Star Wars actions figures! This is for betraying our country!!” (I was going to post a picture, but it is a bit too graphic…)

Anyway, I didn’t think things could get any ”crazier” than a Nuke going off; but then again, there is nothing like family nukes going off!

Side Note: Jack needs to get his fully loaded manpurse back or he is toast!

Extra Side Note: So, is his nephew really his son? Only time will tell…

    Sorry for the light postings….

I’ve been under the weather; and with the weather we have had lately, that is saying alot!

I have some sort of problem with my inner ear. It means that I feel like I am constantly on a merry-go-round or big seagoing ship or at its’ worst, a carnival ride that goes around real fast and pins you to the side or floor. Then there are other times that I feel just fine. It comes and goes.

It is very hard to focus for any period of time because of it. There is so much I want to say or write and I just don’t have it in me to do so.

I’m hoping that it will get better soon.

    Thanks!

The Season is Offically Put Away…

    Today was a sad day.

Yes, it was beautiful and mild, not too hot or cold. But it was a sad day, nonetheless…

Why? We put Christmas away for another year. More specifically, we put the Christmas decorations for another year. Everything looks prettier and happier with the decorations up, especially lights. When they are gone, the house just doesn’t seem quite so happy… nice… fun.

I’ve thought about leaving the tree up for a year or the lights (inside of course; the homeowner’s Association wouldn’t allow us to keep them up outside ;) . But if I did leave them up, maybe they wouldn’t seem so special or pretty?

So today was “put away” day. None of the kids wanted to help. Everyone else had something “better” to do…

I understand. I really do; this is not a job that is fun.

So I wrapped up breakables in the newspaper. I began to think while I was doing this: What will next year be like? Will my children still be OK? Will my husband? Will I have the same job? Will my husband? Will the economy be OK or tanked?  Who will die in the next year? Who will be sick? Who will be well? Will we be here?

Or will everything be just like it is now? A return to status quo?

I know nothing ever remains in status quo, I know something will be changed, but what?

That’s always the questions, isn’t it?

Every fragile item wrapped in the paper became a low tech time capsule. Democrats took office this week (there was much rejoicing!)… Iraq… Terror threats… Israel…. Nuclear bombs…

We’ll see what these headlines will be like next year when I unwrap them for their contents to be put up for the season… Perspective is always interesting…

In the meantime, I will go to bed knowing that the house is picked up and we are set for another year of life…

Anticipation of change is always difficult especially when you have no idea what the change will be…
